I never liked it clean, or pretty. I love paintings that stink of sweat, cigarettes, and cheap wine from Trader Joe's. It’s a raw, ugly beauty, scratched onto the canvas with broken fingers once you hit the raw nerve of inspiration. And you simply must paint or die.
